Form Recover v0.1.0 is Live: The Story Behind the Airbag for Your Browser
After 3 months of breaking and fixing things, Form Recover is finally available on the Chrome Web Store. Here is the story of how we built it.
It’s finally here.
After roughly 90 days of “keluh kesah” (struggles), countless late nights, and hundreds of browser tabs crashed intentionally for testing, I am beyond excited to announce that Form Recover v0.1.0 is officially live on the Chrome Web Store.
The 3-Month Journey
When I started this project, I thought, “How hard can it be to save some text from an input field?”
Famous last words.
I quickly realized that the modern web is a chaotic place. Between complex Single Page Applications (SPAs) like React and Vue that manage state in ways that bypass traditional “value” attributes, and the “Nightmare of Iframes” found on many support portals, the development was a constant battle against edge cases. There were times when I thought the “Ghost Icon” would never align correctly, or that the recovery engine might miss that one crucial comment on a forum.
But every edge case solved was a lesson learned. We built a custom similarity engine to merge drafts intelligently, and a “Main World” injection bridge to make sure we could accurately restore text where other extensions fail.
Lean, Mean, and Local
One of my personal goals was performance. I didn’t want another “bloated” extension slowing down your browsing experience.
The initial release package clocks in at just 80-ish KB.

Despite being small, it packs a punch with features like the Master Password, Visual Snapshots, and a completely serverless design. Your data never leaves your machine, and it never will.
A Big Thank You
I want to extend a sincere thank you to the Chrome Web Store team. The review process is rigorous for a reason, and their feedback helped ensure that our permission justifications and privacy documentation were up to the highest standards. It wasn’t always a straight line to approval, but it forced us to build a better, more transparent product.
Get it now
This is just the beginning. Version 0.1.0 is the foundation, and I have so many more features on the roadmap (looking at you, Export feature!).
If you’ve ever lost work because of a browser crash or an accidental refresh, give Form Recover a try. It’s free to use and respects your privacy 100%.
It’s perfect for writers, developers, forum lurkers, and anyone who types long things on the web.
